I have wanted to visit the Israel Holy Land for many years and had about given up on the idea, but God has a way of answering our prayers when we least expect it. He also answers in ways we least expect.
First I want to thank Union University in Tennessee, the Tennessee Baptist Convention and the Georgia Baptist Mission Board for making this trip possible. Without there underwriting I could have not been able to go.
We went with Yael Group who did an excellent job of keeping our trip on track even when they had to suddenly change hotels or sites. Our host was Dr. Earnest Easley from Tennessee and our guide was Amir Mor. Amir was so knowledgeable of the Bible and significance of the sites that he made the trip even more interesting.
There were 17 guys from Tennessee and 7 from Georgia who went on the trip together. I really enjoyed getting to know these guys as we spent 8 days together. We left on January 19 and were to meet in Chicago for our flight to London. However that was the day of a severe snow storm in Chicago and the Georgia delegation made it out just in time, but the Tennessee guys were delayed a day due to the weather.
I have to say that this is a VERY difficult for an old, fat man so if you plan to go you should walk at least 6 miles a day and up 10 flights of stairs every day to prepare your body. OR you could just plan to do the Israel Holy Land tour when you’re young.
Garden of Gethsemane
My favorite spot was the Garden of Gethsemane where we were able to spend about 45 minutes in Bible study and prayer. It was an emotional experience to be in the location where Jesus Christ prayed before his crucification.
